Do you love live music? We’ll be hosting Red Moon Road on Sunday, May 20th right here at Faking Sanity.

Their music is a mix of folk and roots, with pop, east coast and country influences. They hail from Winnipeg, but you may have caught them here in Dawson during the Home Routes concert series. If you did get a chance to hear them the last time they were here, you know you’ll want to catch them again. If you didn’t, though, here’s your opportunity! Sheena, Daniel and Daniel will be at Faking Sanity for one night only on this western Canada tour, so if you’re planning on going away for the long weekend, try to come back early enough to catch this awesome group.

Creepy Yarn!

Well, actually, it’s beautiful yarn, but it’s Creeping Bellflower yarn (Bell Fingering, specifically), and it is awesome. We just got in a shipment of this lovely hand-dyed fingering (sock) weight yarn, and, as you can see, we’re very excited about it! Come check it out!

Boardwalk bags…

Have you seen the new Namaste Boardwalk backpacks? They’re fabulous! We got them in all four colours: Espresso, Black, Red and Eggplant. Here’s a shot from the Namaste website of the new Espresso colour. As always, the bag is made of vegan-friendly materials (even the interior lining is microsuede made of recycled plastic bottles – the same as the mini-messenger, if you’ve seen those). There are a couple of interior and exterior pockets, a drawstring top and a buckle for a more secure closure. You have to move fast for these though: we’re already down to only two bags, and one is likely going tomorrow! No worries, though, we’ve got another order on the way!

Jeff aka Windborn put on a fabulous show last night. For those of you who weren’t here, you missed something awesome! Try to catch him tonight at Rockwell’s if you can. With our small crowd, it was a very intimate concert, and when a few people felt the need to get up and dance, we had the space to move a table or two and do just that!

I was amazed at the sound created by this one man show. For one of his songs, he recorded several little sections of his intro, and looped and layered them together, along with a final addition of another vocal and guitar line. I also LOVED the extensive use of his guitar as a percusion instrument throughout his music. Oh, and did I mention his powerful voice, great guitar playing and unique song writing? It truly was amazing!

For those of you who missed out on last week’s concert, we have another treat for you this week: Windborn!

Windborn, Jeff Pike’s solo music project, is acoustic alternative groove (including percussion) like you’ve never heard it before. Jeff has been writing and performing since 2001. Last year, he took his show on the road and has booked into every type of venue and event; his music seems to fit whether sharing the stage with other folk artists or a hard-rock band. If that description sounds intriguing, pop on by this Friday night, March 16th. The doors open at 6:30 pm, and the show starts at 7:00. And you can’t beat the price: just $8 at the door.

What a Fabulous Concert!

Kim Wempe was here last night for her part in the Home Routes series concerts. As a special treat, this Home Routes concert also had local artist Dori Braun as an opening act. It was a fabulous concert; from Dori’s first song to Kim’s last, I was enthralled.

If you’ve never caught Kim in concert, you’ve missed something truly amazing. It was the end of a long day/week for me, and yet the minute she started playing, I was captivated – by her powerful voice, her moving lyrics, her humour, her stage presence…

Kim continues on her tour tonight in Chetwynd, so by all means, get thee to Chetwynd if you can, before she goes back East! Dori and her daughter Sam, Dirty Little Kitchen, will be opening for the Ken Wheatley concert at the Demmitt hall later this month, so be sure to catch this talented local act too!

Home Routes Concert at Faking Sanity this week

We’re proud to host this month’s Home Routes Concert here on Friday, March 9th. Award winning East Coast musician, Kim Wempe, will be performing with a special guest appearance by local musician Dori Braun. Doors open at 7:00 pm, and the show starts at 7:30 pm. Admission is $20 at the door. The Home Routes Concert series is brought to you by the South Peace Community Arts Council. Come and enjoy this special treat right here at Faking Sanity!

New business hours starting next Monday

I can’t believe we’ve been open nearly a year and a half! We’ve learned so much along the way – about renovating, being your own boss, and about our customers’ wants and likes. More and more of you are trying to get in for a few minutes before we close every day, so we’ve decided to shift our operating hours around a bit. Beginning on March 5th (the first full week of March, and forward), our hours will be:

Mondays: 11:00 – 6:00
Tuesdays: 11:00 – 6:00
Wednesdays: 11:00 – 6:00
Thursdays: 11:00 – 9:00
Fridays: 11:00 – 6:00
Saturdays: 10:00 – 5:00

As you can see, we’re open a bit earlier on Saturdays, so we’ll always have a breakfast-like special on those days for those of you who like to brunch on the weekends!
