Prime Knitting Time is Approaching Fast!
Posted by mtlaise - 27/08/11 at 10:08:54 amWith the shorter days and cooler weather approaching, many of us turn to indoor activities like knitting to keep us sane. Or mostly sane.
We’re in the planning stage for fall knitting classes here at Faking Sanity right now. Classes will be offered based on interest, but at this time, we’re considering Beginner Knitting, Advanced Beginngers, Knitting Socks on Two Circular Needles, and Beginner Lace Scarves/Shawls.
We can also arrange one on one private knitting lessons on a wide variety of knitting skills, so give us a call at 250-782-8811 for more information or to state your interest. See you soon, and happy knitting!
A Year? It Can’t Be!
Posted by mtlaise - 24/07/11 at 08:07:48 pmIt’s hard to believe that a year ago, I was on my way to the Greyhound to move to Dawson Creek and take ownership of our new business!
So much has changed since then! I moved to a new province, learned all about renovating (I AM the spackle queen), I painted for a hundred years (or so it seemed), washed and inventoried millions of books (well, several thousand, at least), got my (learner’s) drivers license and helped run a restaurant/coffee shop/tea house/bookstore for 10 months! We even survived additional competition in the form of several new restaurants and tea and coffee shops.
So… to celebrate, we’re planning a little something for September in honour of our one year anniversary. Stay tuned!
July is Teacher Appreciation Month!
Posted by mtlaise - 01/07/11 at 04:07:25 pmThere isn’t enough time! Exams, marking, report cards, year-end… Aaaagh!
Don’t fret; it’s all over now, and July is Teacher Appreciation month at Faking Sanity! Come browse the great selection of used books, treat yourself to some tea and cheesecake, and get 10% off all your book purchases for the month of July if you mention you’re a teacher when you check out.
Success!
Posted by mtlaise - 20/06/11 at 07:06:00 pmThank you to everyone who participated in our World Wide Knit in Public event and to those of you who provided items to adorn our walls or to add to the yarn bombing project. I think it was a great success, and I hope you all had fun!
For those of you who are interested, a reporter for the Mirror and the Dawson Creek Daily News took photos of the event for the local papers, and the local CJDC TV station did interviews with several of the attendees, as well as with Cindy. You may have caught a mention of it on the news tonight, but there will also be a full segment on Thursday evening’s arts and entertainment show at 5:30.
And, now, on to some photos! We sure drew a fair bit of stares with the yarn bombing, despite the small scale! Today’s post will include a few photos of the event. There were also lots of projects to look at it inside. I’ll be posting a few here over the next day or two, for those of you who are curious but couldn’t make it.

One More Special Guest for WWKIP
Posted by mtlaise - 17/06/11 at 02:06:37 pmWe have one more special guest pop in for our World Wide Knit in Public event tomorrow. This young girl doesn’t knit or crochet; her brain just isn’t wired for it (the lack of hands doesn’t help either). She loves admiring hand knits though, so she came to have a look around… Won’t you?
Bertie Invited a Friend
Posted by mtlaise - 16/06/11 at 04:06:25 pmBertie Bear had so much fun yesterday, he invited a friend. This little guy (well, he’s a couple feet tall) doesn’tdrive, so he had Anne drive him in.
Anne makes these incredible dolls, and brought in several to display at the shop with all our other knit stuff this month. Come check them out!
A new addition to the store…
Posted by mtlaise - 15/06/11 at 02:06:05 pmIn preparation for World Wide Knit in Public Day, Bun Bun has recruited some friends. Meet Bertie the Bear.
While he doesn’t knit, he’ll happily wear handknits, and treat them with the love and respect they deserve!
It’s Nearly Here…
Posted by mtlaise - 14/06/11 at 02:06:45 pmThe store is all decked out in various yarny projects, and we’re in the final stages of preparing for this Saturday’s World Wide Knit in Public event… and what I’m pretty sure is Dawson’s first taste of the art of yarn bombing. Are you coming?
Pop in between 2 and 5 pm on June 18th. Bring your knitting (or other craft), and show the world – or at least the part around Dawson Creek – that crafts can be very social activities. We’ll be providing free drinks and goodies to all those participating in the event. Join us and show off your knitterly skills!
It’s June! You know what that means…
Posted by mtlaise - 02/06/11 at 02:06:31 pmA sale!
We have two very special reasons for celebrating this week here at Faking Sanity. Firstly, summer is coming, so they say, and we’re finally having summer weather to go with that prediction. Woo!
We’ve also just entered our 10,000th book into our inventory system, and you can ask anyone who has cleaned, priced, entered or stickered all these books, that is more than enough cause for celebration!
So, you can celebrate with us this week on June 3rd and 4th. We’re having a “Stock Up For Summer” sale: 10% off all books, including already reduced sale books. Come check out all the new stock, or try one of our new iced drinks here for the summer.
And then there was one…
Posted by mtlaise - 28/05/11 at 02:05:17 pmOne last Coffee House before the summer break that is… Enjoy the featured performance or show off your talent in the open mike portion. Tonight is your last chance until September, so come on by! Doors open at 6:30 and admission is $5 for kids or seniors and $10 for adults.
