WWKIP? Yarn Bombing? What?
Posted by mtlaise - 28/05/11 at 11:05:33 amDo you know about WWKIP? It is World Wide Knit in Public Day, and we’re having our event here at Faking Sanity on June 18th. Come join us from 2-5 pm, and show the world that knitting (and other crafts) can be very social activities. Bring your knitting, crochet or other craft, and join in on the fun! We’ll be providing free drinks and goodies to everyone participating, and craft books will all be 10% off for the duration of the event.
You can’t have a knitting/craft related event without decorating for it, so the walls will be adorned by several works from our regular knit/craft night attendees. So far, it sounds like there will be knitting, crochet, and spinning (with possibly more to come), and everything from balls of handspun yarn to intricate lacy shawls to giant stuffed snails. That one, by the way, you have to see to believe! It’s so adorable!
As this year also marks the first International Yarn Bombing day, we’re thinking of doing a little something special here at the shop on that front, too. Don’t know what yarn bombing is? Well, you’ll just have to come by the shop on June 18th to check out what all the fuss is about! :)
Tea 101: Faking Sanity’s Own Casablanca Nights
Posted by mtlaise - 17/05/11 at 01:05:04 pmThey’re heeeeeere! The first of our very own custom tea blends!
Come take a stroll with us through a bustling evening market in Casablanca… Our “Casablanca Nights” blends the smooth round cup typical of highland grown orange pekoe black teas with all manner of berries and fruit. It’s much lighter in flavour than a plain black tea usually is due to all the fruit, and has just enough sweetness to make it work great both as a traditional hot tea and as an iced tea.
If you’re wondering what’s in it, there’s a traditional orange pekoe black tea blended with apples, berries, kiwi, rosehips, passion fruit, hibiscus, and petals from roses, passion flowers and cornflowers. A perfect summer tea!
Come try it out, and stay tuned for other Faking Sanity custom tea blends!
Tea 101: Introducing Faking Sanity Blends!
Posted by mtlaise - 11/05/11 at 02:05:04 pmWell, we’ve been posting in our “Tea 101″ category for over two months now. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading along with us about tea varieties and traditional tea blends. Our last set of posts in this Tea 101 category will be introducing some of our own Faking Sanity teas.
Have you ever had difficulty choosing between two teas that sound equally good? While some flavours just don’t go well together, others seem like they were made for each other. We’ve been testing out blends throughout the winter and we have some suggestions we hope you’ll love as much as we do. From more traditional black or green tea blends to mixing herbals and regular tea for a refreshingly different iced tea, we’ve got you covered.
We’ll be posting about our custom Faking Sanity blends over the next few posts, but we also know some of our regulars have been experimenting at home with personal tea blends, so feel free to share your own favourite concoctions too!
Tea 101: Afternoon Blends
Posted by mtlaise - 06/05/11 at 11:05:21 amAfternoon blend teas, whether called Afternoon Blend, 4 O’Clock Tea, 5 O’Clock Blend or something similar, are so-called because they are recommended as afternoon teas, with flavours that blend well with a traditional afternoon tea time (scones, sandwiches, cookies, cakes, etc).
The most well-known “afternoon blend” is the one that came to us from England in the 1840′s, in Queen Victoria’s court. The traditional English Afternoon tea blend is a mix of Darjeeling, Assam and Ceylon. It’s usually taken with milk, but with its subtle fragrant flavour, it’s great black. Many other afternoon blends contain mostly Indian and Sri Lankan black teas, sometimes with hints of jasmine, bergamot oil or other light flavours.
Here at Faking Sanity, you can try our Steeps Afternoon Blend, which is a blend of fine Assam and Darjeeling.
