Recommended Author – Susanna Kearsley

One of my favourite things in the world is finding an excellent author who is new to me and reading their entire backlist.  Last month that author was Susanna Kearley.

My friend Tannis had been telling me for ages that I needed to read one of her novels and compared her to Mary Stewart. Since it had been 15 years since I read Mary Stewart, that maybe wasn’t the best selling point for me, but I ran across The Shadowy Horses somewhere and picked it up.

Once I finished that one, I went on the hunt for all the others. Now I’ve read all but her first, which is apparently crazy hard to find.  And I loved them.

I’m not even sure how to describe them. Contemporary fiction, with a historical bent. Throw in a bit of suspense and a bit of a love story, stir. Absolutely fabulous. And they’re being re-released by Alison & Busby in these absolutely gorgeous covers:

Yes, I totally bought a new copy of The Shadowy Horses just because I loved the cover.  I’m very much hoping they will re-release Ther others in the same format!

A New Start

I deleted my last post, despite it explaining that I had decided to abandon the blog-every-day-for-100-days challenge that I set myself.  I deleted it because I wrote it when I was completely exhausted and depressed and couldn’t see the end of the tunnel, so it wasn’t exactly the most chipper blog post out there.

But I decided a couple of weeks ago that I need to focus on the good stuff and not let the bad stuff overwhelm. So that’s what I’m going to do.

For the next little while I’m going to be talking about things that make me happy. Mainly it’ll be the little things, like the sight of a tree in full bloom today when it was blizzarding less than a week ago.  I should have taken a picture!
