WWED?

Posted by perian - 06/04/10 at 08:04:11 pmStarted and finished Changes, the new Dresden Files book today. I was kind of meh about it before I started because I knew that Susan returned in it, and she’s never been my favourite character in the series. But the first page had the best hook ever and I just couldn’t put it down.
Whenever I read a new Dresden book I wonder how Butcher is going to top himself this time. How in the world is Harry’s life going to get more screwed up than it already is, how are the bad guys going to get worse than they were in the previous book? But he always does it, and Changes didn’t let me down in that regard. But the one thing that Butcher has never quite mastered is the whole moral-of-the-story bit, which he tends to knock you over the head with (and he’s basically thrown out the idea of “show, don’t tell” there as well.) But, hey, for those of us just reading them a) for a light, quick, fun read and b) to see if Harry and Murphy ever actually hook up, it hits the spot every time.
Also, Murphy still rocks. Murphy will always rock. I want an entire Murphy book.

I knit so I don’t kill people
Posted by perian - 04/04/10 at 10:04:09 pmHad a wonderful Sunday knit night, as always. I started a new pair of socks, but didn’t even get a toe done due to prodigious yarn barf. I should have taken a picture to show it off, but of course I didn’t think of that while detangling.
I haven’t really been in the mood for knitting lately, mainly because I owed a belated Christmas gift — mitts for my brother-in-law. I was sick of working on them, but felt guilty starting something else, so I’d grudgingly knit a few rows, or a thumb, each week when our friends came over. But last week I finally, finally finished them (pics to come, I’m sure) and now I just need to send them off.
Despite declaring just last week that I was never going to knit for someone else ever again, this week I started some basic ribbed socks for the roomie. At least she will understand if I get completely bored with them and need to work on something else for a while to get over it. And she’s knit two pairs for me (well, they were mistake socks that happened to fit me) so I owe her.
But no more knitting for my unappreciative family!
Happy Zombie Jesus Eve!
Posted by perian - 03/04/10 at 08:04:02 pmI can’t think of a better way to celebrate the end of my week than to listen to two hours of Alan Brough getting his geek on. Though truthfully, he doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy to ever get his geek off, so… No, wait, that sounded dirty… Let’s start this again.
I had an absolutely crap day today. I was still feeling sick (as I have been for the past two days, hence no blogging) and then my morning staff member called in sick so I ended up working by myself for seven hours. No sitting down, no food, and (most importantly for me and my tiny bladder) no time to go pee. But then I got to come home and curl up with a book in my big comfy chair for a couple of hours before listening to Alan Brough’s excellent radio show on ABC Melbourne.
I absolutely love that he finds everything so very, very fascinating.
